Many will say that Jesus was referring to the Roman destruction of Jerusalem approximately 40+ years later. I sure hope that those who hear and heard “laid up for themselves” supplies in the caves (or places) they were able to flee to. If they did, they might survive and live on to share what Jesus said..

I truly hope you are right. If we do not get our country out of the hands of the evil people who are controlling it right now. Then I fear we will lose our nation forever and things will only get worse. Through higher and higher inflation the lose of our God given rights, more wars, more crime, more and more ignorance, less quality education, more lies about our history, weakening of our status in the world, and the worst of all hoaxes and lies ‘man made climate change” that is being used to scare people and to gain more control over our lives and eventually to eliminate people off the face of the earth in the name of saving the planet. Which is spelled out on the Georgia Guidestone in Elberton, GA. The stones that someone rightfully tried to destroy. There is a lot of rich and powerful evil people behind the destruction of our country and it will be up to the patriots of this country to stop them. Decent article … but the last Amish store I saw was in New York State while visiting in 2011. You don’t see too many Amish stores in Arizona. Besides which, while non electric tools are dependable and a good back up … a decent solar panel, and battery, can charge most electric tools, which while not as dependable, get the job done a whole lot faster than a manual tool.
Even a pedal sewing machine, is nice, but I have patched holes in jeans, tears in shirts, with a needle and thread, without the machine, and a needle and thread is much easier to store.
Kerosene lamps are nice, as long as you have fuel, and can be backed up with solar powered lights, and charging others with that solar panel and battery system. Water storage is important, and always (especially living in the desert south west) a way of life …. but unless you have a well, and water rights … (and plan to drill hundreds of feet down … kind of a moot point.
Non electric kitchen tools, like all tools, a good idea to have them even in non SHTF scenarios … my electric can opener died, last night. No stores open on Christmas … I doubt Amazon delivers on Christmas … so how do I open my canned beans for my green bean casserole? I always keep P38’s and a manual can opener at the ready.
Common sense, (lacking in this country with recent generations) is really all that is needed. It doesn’t take a genius to prepare for any little thing that might come along (like a can opener breaking on Christmas Eve). Common sense, trumps all the above, in lieu of hoping the Amish have a store, to make your decisions for you.

I have many manual items simply by inheritance or interest. I have a mostly restored treadle sewing machine and an early electric sewing machine that use the same bobbins and accessories.

I have stocked up on some solar powered lights recently. Look for ones that you can bring indoors in the evening and set back outside during the day to recharge. They are safer than candles and oil lamps, especially around pets or kids, no electricity needed, the batteries last for years, and they provide plenty of light in the evening. I found some on Amazon for around $30.
Also find small solar panels with type C connectors (some have others connectors/adapters also) that can charge your phones or security cameras. The panels are small and can be moved easily and aimed towards the sun. These store easily in a bug out bag, and can be used anywhere.
This is a helpful article for ideas rather than the source of the items as I would venture the vast majority of folks reading do not live near an ‘Amish store.’ That being said, from the standpoint of ‘off grid ideas inspired by the Amish,’ there are several good suggestions like mason jars, which can be purchased at Walmart or Amazon.com etc etc instead of traveling to Various enclaves of Amish Country.
Just got back from the inlaws during Christmas, which is in Amish land. We go there to stock up on goods that are often cheaper than our own local corporate grocery store: $2 a lb bacon, $1 angus patties, $5 NY strip steaks, $2 a dozen eggs etc.
Their Amish neighbors, whose cows got out and was down the road and trampling the fields (never saw that before), are always selling delicious foods, and working with simple tools.
I loved the Sorghum tip – 1,000 seeds for $20 is pretty good! We also plan on getting newer old fashioned tools for our homestead. The next one on my list is a new well pump with extra flanges.
