10 Food Items That Will Skyrocket in Price in 2024

If you pay any attention to the price of things in the store, it always seems that food goes up faster than most things. Granted, it’s not the only thing that goes up in price; and some things like energy costs, seem to go up even faster. Nevertheless, amongst the things that we need every day, food prices going up as quickly as they have been is definitely concerning.

This problem was made even worse by the COVID-19 pandemic, with farmers having to kill off animals and processing plants having to throw out good food, just because their production was packaged for use in restaurants and couldn’t be sold at retail. Although it has been largely reduced, we are still feeling some shockwaves from those times. Adding to that were the high number of food processing plants that were destroyed by fire in 2022.

Looking at these things, it is natural to wonder if those fires were intentional. While a number of “fact checkers” have debunked that speculation, the only people who trust those fact checkers anymore are those who have already drunk the cool-aid.

Regardless of whether those fact checkers are right or not, we are all being faced with the reality of products becoming scarce or out and out missing from our grocery store shelves. In cases where the products don’t outright disappear from the shelves, prices tend to rise, causing us all to feel the pinch. Nobody is publishing actual inflation figures for food, which can be trusted, but I’m sure it is higher than the 5.8% the government is claiming, probably much closer to 12 or 14%.

As preppers, this should have less impact on us, than it does on others. However, for that to be true, we need to have enough of a stockpile of the right items, so that we don’t have to buy it. We also need to be willing to use the items we have, rather than just hanging on to them. That’s a tricky balance to hold, as none of us truly know what the future will hold.

The big question is trying to figure out what foods are going to see outrageous price increases, so that we can beat the rush and stock up. Here are a few thoughts about what we can expect to see rise in prices over the next year.

Meat, Especially Beef

Beef and veal have been going up by an extraordinary amount in the last couple of years, and unfortunately, there seems to be no foreseeable end to this upward trend.

A number of things are contributing to this, including the ever-increasing cost of raising the cattle. The cost of shipping also plays a pivotal role in the overall price hike.

The temporary reduction in prices we’re seeing at the gas pump is there just for the elections and as soon as those are over, prices will rise again, causing everything else to rise.

In addition to the raising and processing costs for beef, it seems that those who support AOC’s “Green New Deal” have decided that cow farts are a major cause of greenhouse gases.

This has led to several attempts to penalize the cattle industry, as well as consumers that buy beef. I can’t prove that these efforts are having an actual impact on beef prices, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they are in some hidden way.

Poultry

10 Food Items That Will Skyrocket in Price in 2024One of the hardest hit areas of farming, during the pandemic, was the poultry industry.

While chickens grow rapidly, making it possible to rebuild flocks fairly quickly, the huge numbers of chickens which were euthanized during COVID has made rebuilding those flocks challenging.

With beef prices rising, more people are turning to poultry, especially chicken, as their main protein source.

Related: How To Make Your Chickens Lay More Eggs

Chicken has always been popular, around the world; but the added demand is driving prices up, following the laws of supply and demand. We can expect chicken prices to continue increasing disproportionally as people look for an alternative to beef.

Seafood

10 Food Items That Will Skyrocket in Price in 2024Seafood, especially shellfish of all types, has always been expensive. But it looks like the prices we only go up from now on.

While it might seem that the vastness of the oceans would give us a nearly unlimited supply of these tasty creatures, the fact is that only a very small part of the world’s oceans can be effectively harvested.

While I wouldn’t raise the alarm that they are being overharvested just yet, the availability is affecting prices.

This will probably balance out before too long; but in the meantime, the cost of seafood seems to be rising more rapidly than it should. At the same time, the size of shrimp, lobsters, crabs and other shellfish are going down, so we’re getting less for our money.

Eventually, most of these shellfish will probably be farmed, rather than harvested from nature. When that happens, the price will drop considerably, but the quality will probably drop as well.

Flour

10 Food Items That Will Skyrocket in Price in 2024We’re approaching the two-year mile marker on the war in Ukraine and neither side seems to be giving up. The Ukrainians are holding on tenaciously, which I applaud them for. It’s their land and they should fight for it.

Related: War in Ukraine: How It Could Affect the U.S.

On the other hand, Putin doesn’t seem to be giving up and going home, probably for domestic political reasons. He may not be able to survive a loss, politically speaking.

Ukraine has become one of the world’s major wheat suppliers; something that the war has largely interrupted. This has created shortages worldwide, driving prices for wheat up.

Here at home, we haven’t yet felt the crunch from this particular shortage, because we grow all our own wheat. But as world supplies are becoming more scarce, more and more of our wheat is being shipped overseas, which will drive domestic prices up.

Breakfast Cereal

10 Food Items That Will Skyrocket in Price in 2024The main ingredient in breakfast cereal is wheat flour, even breakfast cereals which use other grains, such as Cheerios. That means we can expect the price for breakfast cereals to rise, thanks to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Related: Looming Grain Shortage. Do This Before It’s Too Late

It probably won’t come back down either, even after the war is over and world supplies stabilize once again. We might see prices stabilize, but they won’t come back down again.

Baked Goods

Just like breakfast cereal, baked goods can be expected to go up and for the same reasons.

Bakeries of all types, from the big commercial operations to local mom and pop shops are dealing with rising material costs. That, in turn, will drive the prices of their products up.

10 Food Items That Will Skyrocket in Price in 2024A lot of labor goes into baked goods, especially in smaller bakeries, including those in supermarkets.

As an increasing number of state and local governments are embracing higher minimum wage standards, labor costs for these bakeries will rise faster than the cost of their ingredients.

Baked goods offer us one area in which we can combat higher food costs, as most can be made at home.

Actually, what can be made at home is generally healthier and better tasting than what we buy in the store, as it will not have chemicals in it, replacing actual ingredients.

Home baked goods are more likely to be eaten by mold, as they don’t contain preservatives. So, we need to learn how to manage our production, matching it with our family’s consumption.

Milk

10 Food Items That Will Skyrocket in Price in 2024Milk is actually an international commodity, just like wheat.

Lower exports of milk, driven by lower international demand, are causing more domestic milk production to be kept stateside.

That milk has to meet higher standards, driving up overall costs for the industry.

As milk is a highly perishable item, it can’t be saved easily for consumption at a later date.

Related: Stop Throwing Away Spoiled Milk! Do This Instead

Farmers must sell their production daily and stores need to move that product before it nears its expiration date.

Butter and Margarine

10 Food Items That Will Skyrocket in Price in 2024The higher cost of milk is having a detrimental impact on the overall cost of butter, leading to a noticeable increase.

That higher price allows producers of margarine to increase their prices, despite the absence of any factors directly influencing an upward trajectory in their production costs.

It’s all about what the market will bear, and these companies are taking advantage of the opportunity that higher butter costs provides for them.

Cheese

Higher milk costs are also affecting the cost of cheese, as milk is the major ingredient in making cheese.

10 Food Items That Will Skyrocket in Price in 2024 About 1.25 gallons or 10 pounds of milk are required to make each pound of cheese.

That concentrates any increase in the cost of milk, multiplying it at what may seem like a disproportionate rate in the cost of cheese.

In reality, it’s an increase in material costs.

The price of cheese is a bit high to start with, just because it takes so long to make.

While commercial cheese manufacturing is largely automated, the process still takes up time, space, and other resources.

Related: How to Make Cheese from Powdered Milk

Add a higher cost for the main ingredient and the price quickly starts rising.

Fruits & Vegetables

10 Food Items That Will Skyrocket in Price in 2024Farmers have always been subject to the vagaries of the weather. While irrigation makes a huge difference, helping keep crops from being lost, only about 15% of all US farmland is irrigated.

The rest is dependent on natural rainfall. When the weather doesn’t cooperate, crops suffer.

We have been experiencing an extensive period of drought, through large parts of the United States. This is not expected to be alleviated anytime soon.

Whether that is due to climate change or just normal, cyclical changes in weather patterns is hard to tell and the information available thoroughly muddies the water, as people are quick to blame climate change.

Either way, we can be assured that the prices of fruits and vegetables will keep going up.

Here in the United States, about 30% of all fruits and vegetables grown are wasted, largely due to produce that has nothing wrong with it, other than not being attractive.

The agricultural industry has spent billions of dollars in research, trying to make more attractive produce. That’s a lot of where GMOs come from. In the process though, they have increased the incidence of less attractive produce going to waste.

This is perhaps one of the easiest places for us to combat these rising prices, buying our produce from farmers’ markets, roadside stands and directly from the farmer.

While it may not look just like the produce in the grocery stores, it will generally be fresher and healthier for us to eat.

Watched a show recently regarding rationing during WWII and how Americans and Europeans quickly found and shared alternatives to the items being rationed. High prices are just another form of rationing. Whether driven by greed, manipulation or shortages, the consumer can win by simply not paying the high prices. Nearly everything has an alternative that provides the same benefits as a rationed item. Be smart.

      Are we ready to RUMBLE?

“The year is 2028, life is harder, Everything is getting more expensive. No matter how many hours you work, you can’t seem to get ahead of your expenses. Nutrition has suffered because food shortages have caused food prices to skyrocket. Your business, if you still own one, is struggling. Hard to find a job. Everything seems to be more complicated than just a decade ago.
But the government has a solution,
If you agree to get a “FedNow” chip implanted in your arm, you will receive $2,000 each month for free! Pretty fantastic, right?
The chip will be a built-in credit card and identity card that will allow you to shop at stores, open locked shoplifting-proof cabinets and pay with ease.
It’ll also be your online ID. You’ll be able to shop online anywhere, and the experience will be speedy and seamless.
It will allow you to bypass the lines at movies, airports, sporting events and amusement parks. Companies will reward you with significant benefits for having a “proven identity.”
It will monitor all aspects of your health and will call an ambulance if you are having a heart attack.
Sounds great, right? So, would you get a FedNow chip?
You want to say no, right? Because you know there will be significant strings attached.
But can you turn down $2,000/month?” Borrowed info from a Glenn Meder newsletter.

A hungry belly speaks louder than people can imagine. People WILL sell their freedom to the government controlled machine. The wheels WERE SET IN MOTION back in the mid 70’s . “Teach the people to be DEPENDANT on the government, and they will know NOTHING else”. Society is graduating with honors, from those teachings. Even those who know how to fend for themselves, are not and will not be allowed to. Peace of mind, heart and soul is no longer allowed. Unless it is in THEIR interests. They’ve stolen well over $55 TRILLION DOLLARS from our Social Security and used it for welfare and other wasteful and useless social programs for the past 55 years (at $1 TRILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR!!!!!). Follow the money-trail. They’ve spent at least $1 TRILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR on welfare alone!!!!!! Now, it’s $400 BILLION/YR. for illegal immigrants (e.g., free education, free healthcare, free housing, free food stamps, free welfare, free cash ($6,000/month to live in NYC, Chicago and LA); $400 BILLION/YR. to Ukraine and our enemies (Iran, Taliban, Russia, etc.); $500 BILLION/YR. to Communist China; $400 BILLION for abortion and other social programs that are sexual and gender in nature; etc. It seems that every program is getting $400 BILLION/YR., with Military at about $1 TRILLION/YR. or more.

Americans need to DEMAND that their Social Security monies be returned ASAP!!!!!! If the $55 TRILLION, OR SO, wasn’t touched, just based on the compound interest alone, every man, woman and child in America would be receiving a Social Security check for $100,000 every year (excluding illegal immigrants and foreign enemies).

Rationing limited quantity, whatever the price. At the end of 1942 most drivers could only purchase 4 gallons of gas per week, reduced to 2 gallons in 1944. Rationing tickets were often available on the black market. Rationing limits supply and high cost limits demand.

At this point before the 2024 elections, we are being squeezed of affordable food chain sources. The Chinese are buying our country as the politicians sell us out to foreign countries mainly China. Oh hail Bidenomics, the selling out and bankrupting America, dam them all!

A lot of you all voted for the other guy who supports big spending and taxes because you hate uncle Donald’s mean tweets back then. See what you got now a dementia politician who supports globalist values. Selling out America to the open borders world deviates, unions, environmentalists turning our country upside down. Are the Obama’s and Clinton’s running the show behind the scenes? Who is controlling the government?

A friend in California said there is an uptick in a cough congestion going on.
Well what do you expect with Chinese secret bio-weapons lab full of doctor Fauci’s friendly Covid viruses found in Southern California.
How many other Chinese secret bio-labs are hidden in America?

Why are Chinese military age nationals flooding America?
Why are law enforcement police chief in San Diego demanding more restricted gun laws after his cops are being shot at?
The city council there has voted in spy cameras and license plat readers they say to monitor the streets, really?

California is a liberal cesspool of scary stuff, what happens in California spreads to other parts of the country. The mass shootings are a product of liberals chipping away at our first and second amendments lately. Sadly these mass shootings are an unfortunate gamble by the Deep State. To convince people to give up their weapons at these law enforcement gun buyback programs. The people trade guns in for a lousy $20 to $200 USD gift card. Is this what liberalism is all about?

When will America wake up that they are losing their America?

In California there are still practical conservatives in outlying areas of the State. The major cities are cesspools of liberalism in the political leadership. The people have been duped into voting their propositional referendums by devious politicians there. That is why they have high gas taxes.

California will need to clean house from top down and bottom up of politics, social services and their educational system. The State is run by unions of every trade and political associations. The environmental activists have ruined their water supplies to farmers by the Delta Smelt scam.
The SANDAG mayors in San Diego, are trying to mandate a mileage tax which eventually works there goes nationwide.

We are still a Christian nation and the bible says debtor and creditor can resolve the debt owed, in modern times the American trillions of dollars in debt can be ended by filing for bankruptcy.
No of the American taxpayers were consulted on borrowing money from the Chinese or any other country to shore up our economy. The past president took our dollar off the gold standard. He Federal Reserve Bank is not part of America, it is a banking system run by foreign bankers that control our American money system.
All of these past and present politicians, their families who profited from the Ponzi scheme on taxpayers must remit all their ill gotten finances and those that got stock insider tips to become rich.

All those profits these elite received will be turned into the Social Security & Medicare lock box system, the US government was supposed to keep for American citizens retirements only.
Purge the illegal and tourist Chinese born Anchor babies born in corrupt American hospitals profiting and now residing in China, who will dip into our retirement funds. These are the things the government don’t want you to know.
Is those Chinese nationals crossing the open Southern border part of that corruption our politicians sleazebags are letting in through Bidenomics? Who is profiting from Bidenomics?

Why are we still giving foreign aid to countries, including China, Russia, N.K., and Iran for examples. You realize American taxpayers foot a lot of the bills to foreigners first then American citizens first!

I’m canning beef, chicken & pork on a regular basis although the price of canning jars has really increased. Butter & cheese I vacuum seal and freeze. Fruits & vegetables primarily freeze dried in #10 cans. I have two 5-gallon buckets, one filled with ivermectin paste, other filled with a variety of supplements.
Also have a large supply of first aid and sanitation supplies, 55- gallons of fuel, (4) 55-gallons of water, water filters & purification tablets.
    What am I overlooking?

maybe a source of electricity to keep it frozen like some solar and a sustainable source of water, ie, a deep well or rain barrels?
the wife and i have put very little in the freezers since 2005 when we lost our power in our entire area for a month and water for a week from Katrina. no elect. no water, no gas from the pumps in town, no stores were open within 50 miles. we lost our whole garden that September from having it in our freezers.
jars are reusable, just stock up in gross on the tops. we learned our lesson the hard way.
PS, we really like the Superior tops made in the US. ball and Kerr are made in China now and ain’t what they use to be.

The solar project is my husband responsibility he’s installed 20 panels, two inverters and three massive batteries. I don’t have a lot of knowledge about it however we still need to figure out a way to pump our sewage into the filter system a d drain field about two acres away. If we’re without power for more than three days it could get ugly with sewage back-up. Maybe just an old school generator to keep fire up the pump every few days?
I have been buying lots of canning lids, theres even an old time gadget that removes the lids without denting them so they’re able to reuse, its called Pry-A-Lid

Seriously look at dehydrating. Shelf safe when complete. also takes up less room in cupboards and hidey holes. The BIG issue is water. Rainwater collection even on the sly. Save gallon jugs, water, but not milk (can’t clean them) Consider a Berkey water system and extra filters. Did you know, Fed is trying to close them down… Tells me that system works. In a pinch, it will filter rainwater.

We need to insist in every precinct across the country that paper ballots are used and that there is a Republican and Democrat counter that tallies the votes. No more voting machines and no more manipulating votes and hopefully every pro Christian, pro American, conservative, will get out and vote and we can take back this country before it’s too late, if it’s not too late already.
Sadly, the final countdown has begun, and things may not get better until Jesus comes back.

this is why we prepare. this is why sites like this are so important. to help people like myself and others get ready for may happen next year. nothing may happen but who knows.
being a prepper means to be ready for all things like natural disasters, economic and inflation problems and the threats from outside forces in our world. information is important.
it’s my opinion that all people now know of the threats to us, and those who are not ready, or just don’t care, aren’t worth saving excluding the old. we have to take care of our seniors, they have given us so much and their knowledge is invaluable.
i’ll be surprised if we even have another Presidental election. it will be chaos if not.

Use cash as much as possible, when stocking up. Don’t leave a trail, be stealth with everything.

As a human family we need to remember to trust in God. That means we have to be not only temporally prepared we need to be physically and spiritually prepared. All holy writing has warned us about this time in history. If we are to survive we will need a relationship with our Heavenly Father along with our supplies and good physical health. Just like making friends, we talk to them and we are kind and respectful of them. The same goes with God. Blessings to all.

I believe the free market will survive. As long as the U.S farmers can get by.
But like ever body saying once the U.S Gov. gets them in their grip we will
get hungry very fast. And nobody will be able to stop the damage that the
    U.S Gov. has caused.

7.5 billion must perish. No one will unite to protect their nation. End result ; starvation, disease, and death to all except the Js who want the entire world to themselves with about 500m slaves. Just keep hiding and pretending it’s not real, cause they WILL make it to YOUR front door.

Navigating the twists and turns of the market in 2024, we’ve seen the price of essential food items like bread, milk, and fruits take an unexpected leap. The challenge of keeping prices competitive, while ensuring quality, felt like a tightrope walk. That’s until we discovered https://priceva.com/amazon-price-tracking. This gem revolutionized our pricing strategy, introducing us to the world of automated price monitoring and daily insights, saving us invaluable time and effort.

A game-changer was Priceva’s alert system. On one occasion, it flagged a significant price drop on a competitor’s product instantly. This prompt notification allowed us to adjust our prices accordingly, making informed decisions swiftly and maintaining our competitive edge without constant manual monitoring.

What truly sets Priceva apart is its rule-based repricing software. This tool empowered us to automatically set optimal prices, ensuring we’re always in line with market trends and consumer expectations. Plus, the reporting and analytics feature has been indispensable. By tracking the minimum and average prices of competitors, we’ve been able to fine-tune our pricing strategy with precision, giving us a significant advantage.

Priceva has not just been a tool; it’s been a cornerstone of our strategy, transforming challenges into opportunities and leading us toward sustainable success.
